Using materials that have been discarded, donated, or scavenged from their local communities, Chang and Lee will use multiple improvised and engineered techniques to metamorphose these abject materials into “functional” tote bags. Throughout the exhibition run of THRESHOLD, 2023–2024 Fellow Allison Halter invites the public to participate in a continuation of the ongoing project Singing to Sculpture. Using group tunings and Deep Listening techniques pioneered by Pauline Oliveros, Halter will encourage a non-verbal sonic exchange with the elements of THRESHOLD, charging them with a variety of sounds and opinions, and providing the participants a chance to express their thoughts and feelings about art outside the confines of language.
