Gabriela Vainsencher in Conversation with Alun Williams
Artist Gabriela Vainsencher discusses the process and concepts behind her multi-disciplinary practice, through an informal conversation with artist and Triangle Arts board member Alun Williams.
This conversation takes place in tandem with Vainsencher’s participation in Bronx Calling, the fifth Bronx Museum AIM Biennial, on view from November 10, 2021, to March 20, 2022. Co-curated by Ian Cofre (Director, PS 122 Gallery) and Eva Mayhabal Davis (Co-Director, Transmitter), the fifth edition of Bronx Calling considers the multiple crises of health, grief, the environment, and identity that define our contemporary moment.
The exhibition features a piece by Vainsencher titled Mom, a large-scale wall-hanging sculpture made out of approximately 50 pieces of hand-sculpted, carved, and painted porcelain tiles. Vainsencher elaborates on the process of creating this piece, inspired by the challenges and complexities of motherhood during an ongoing pandemic.
