The Unforgettables Reading/Working Group

January 20, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A.I.R. Gallery
155 Plymouth Street
Brooklyn, NY 11201 United States
212-255-6651

The next Unforgettables session will be co-lead by current AIR fellow Crys Yin, whose exhibition will be on view in March.

For the January meeting we will be reading a selection of texts that in very divergent ways focus on how our actions affect the creation of space, safety and identity, even though we might not be consciously moving through those concepts.

This World by Ida Vitale

I only accept this enlightened world
True, inconstant, mine.
I only exalt its eternal maze
and its safe light, even if it hides.
Awake or between dreams,
its grave earthy floor
and it’s patience in me
that blooms.
It has a deaf circle,
limbo perhaps,
where blindly I wait
the rain, the fire
unchained.
Sometimes its light changes,
it is hell; sometimes rarely
Paradise.
Someone may, maybe
open doors,
see beyond
promises, successions.
I only live in it,
expect from it
and there is enough awe.
I am in it,
I stayed,
reborn.

The Unforgettables Reading/Working group is a series of open to the public monthly meetings at the A.I.R. space running since late 2016, initiated by artist Ofri Cnaani and A.I.R. Executive Director Roxana Fabius. This group, formed by readers/workers from several disciplines and walks of life, brings to the front a combination of texts, artworks, and films. Every month the group looks at historic feminist and queer manifestos, science fiction, new feminist fiction writings, and theory pieces that help to imagine a future where no-one is forgotten.

Each session is led by a different member of the group, empowering the attendants to learn, and publicly share their thoughts with others. The Unforgettables Reading/Working Group embraces its origins, accepts the mistakes of the past, and aims to become more inclusive. We invite everyone to study, converse, and work together.  Studying side by side, the group works on A.I.R.’s non official horizontal and updated feminist library. An unusual unforgettable one.

Please send us an email at info@airgallery.org if you want to receive updates or more information on the group.
