Two Coats of Paint
55 Washington Street, #321
Brooklyn, NY 11201 United States

Contributed by Sharon Butler / Peter Dudek and Monika Sosnowski, as Two Coats of Paint artists-in-residence, will present an exhibition of their work on Thursday, December 5, 6-9 pm, during DUMBO First Thursday.

Primarily a sculptor, Dudek, born in 1952 in Adams, Massachusetts, has always been interested in Modern Architecture, particularly the early works of Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright and other mid-century modernists. In 1976, he moved to New York City, where he earned degrees from the School of Visual Arts and Hunter College. He also attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture summer program. He has traveled throughout Europe, has curated many exhibitions, has participated in myriad group shows, and had numerous solos. In Massachusetts, near his hometown, he is a partner in the Bascom Lodge, an Arts-and-Crafts-style lodge at the peak of Mount Greylock, where he is the Director of Cultural Programming. He teaches at SVA and Hunter.

Though a photographer, Sosnowski’s work is abstract and almost painterly. She was born in Detroit, grew up in Poland and the United States, and says that the duality of this experience has strongly influenced her artistic sensibility. “I think about the nature of being in time and place. In my long-term projects, I’m exploring the intricacies of perception and the response to given phenomena as effected by personal experience.” Both tender and poetic, her images have been exhibited at, among other places, LABspace in Hillsdale and Smack Mellon in Brooklyn. She received an MFA in Photography from Hunter College and is currently an adjunct professor at Hudson County Community College.
