A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to announce Here, right now., an exhibition of photographs and video by artist, Hana Sackler. Sackler will be showing a new body of work exploring perception and the nature of truth and fiction. This is Sackler’s first solo exhibition in New York City.
In Here, right now., the lines of reality are blurred and we are left dangling somewhere between a daydream and the present moment. In this series of images, Sackler weaves a combination of chance situations and performance in order to lead the viewer into a state of childlike wonder. We ask ourselves: what happened to a wasp caught in a pool of honey on the edge of a ripe fig, or who built the window that displays an impenetrable beyond? In the three-part video Game Call, we move deeper into a series of unsettling realities embedded in the everyday. Here Sackler employs the concept of a hunter’s game call, typically used while hunting to mimic animal noises in order to drive them closer to danger. She pulls us in by gradually intensifying the sequence of audio and visual stimuli. As intimate moments are revealed, the artist asks us to consider our own dual roles as intruder and voyeur. In Here, right now., we find ourselves misplaced in elusive everyday moments, trying to comb our way back to reality.
